New Hair and a Tag
New haircut for the new semester. This must have been one of my least traumatic haircuts. No disappointment or frustration at the way my hair went even after the first hair wash at home. And the hairdresser was actually nice and gave advice I’ve heard many times yet in a way that seemed professional, pleasing and most importantly, non-pushy. Assured me that my problems are not much, I don’t have scalp problems or what, just needed to make my hair more “obedient”. Which yes, means straightening. I got a temp straightening, little teaser of what perpetual good hair days would be like. Tempting…
Took this photo around noon today when in the car, near Kuching High. At first what caught me was the perspective and the way you could see a bit of greenery amongst the man-made buildings, and a hint of the old wooden school block admist the greenery. And how the buidling on the right is all nice and new and the other is gritty and older. Then when I got home, I realised something about this photo. Look how the car is parked! Haha. Typically Malaysian.
Cedric tagged me. Why oh why? And this tag certainly wasn’t easy. And considering how my book-loving years are long over, I was surprised I was even tagged. Gah. Anyway, on with the tag…
Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
I chewed books when I was a baby, or so I was told, must have tasted good because 10 years down the line I was still reading avidly. Sad to say, other more “tastier” things have captured my liking since my teenage years.
What are some books you read as a child?
During my pre-school years, I remember a lot of Peter and Jane books, fairy tales, kiddy fact books. Later on, were the “big kids books” such as the Enid Blyton books, kiddy classics like Anne of Green Gables, Little House on the Prairie. Then around the age of 9, that time of discovery of a whole new phase of life, and with it came girly books like the Baby-Sitters Club, Judy Blume books, Sweet Valley *cringe*. Oh I remember the Phantom Tollbooth too, weird story. And yea, a lot of Roald Dahl books as well.
What is your favourite genre?
10 years ago, I’d say stories with real characters living “real” lives, albeit more interesting were my favourite kind of stories. Now, I’d say I don’t read much books at all, not for pleasure at least.
Do you have a favourite novel?
Asking me to pick a favourite anything is like asking me to make a life-altering decision. I can’t for the life of me do that.
Where do you usually read?
On my bed, in my room, especially when I was a kid. In this new house, I like reading in the seating area at the back of the house on the couch where it’s nice and quiet during the day.
When do you usually read?
As a kid who loved reading, I’d usually do my reading before bed, in bed. And I suspect that’s how my eyesight deteriorated, what with the dim lighting and holding books in that unnatural position for that long, every night.
Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?
No, I find it distracting and confusing to jump from one story to another and back again. Kind of throws you off rhythm as each story has a different feel to it.
Do you read non-fiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?
I read non-fiction in a different frame of mind than I would read fiction. And p
erhaps more pursing of lips and musing involved.
Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?
Most of the books I used to read in my childhood were from the library. Now, I just flip through the occasional book at the store or read whatever someone in my family gets that seems good.
Do you keep most of the books you buy?
I let the moths, silverfish and the like have a go at them, they seem to develop quite a liking for my books.
If not, what do you do with them?If you have children, what are some of the favorite books you have shared with them?
Oh please! What’s with this tag, so thought-provoking! It’s the end of summer break, my brain cells want to rest. Do I really have to think about the future and children, and what kinda books I would like to share with them? Wah. *Patience approaching its limits. Haha*
Were they some of the same ones you read as a child?
I’d imagine the books in my kids’ childhood wouldn’t be quite the same as those in my childhood. Except for some classics.
What are you reading now?
Ah finally a question I can answer easily!! Recently I’ve been reading quite a bit of the MIMS, a Malaysian version drug dictionary, while at placement and while at work at the clinic. Still reading the Bible, far from finishing it. Not been reading much books for leisure. But been reading a lot of blogs, a lot. Does that count? Haha.
Do you keep a “To Be Read” list?
Nope, never had, probably never will.
What’s next to be read?
Probably Physiology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, some more Pharmacy stuff. Semester’s starting soon, you know.
What books would you like to reread?
My mind’s registering a blank to this question at the moment…..
Who are your favourite authors?
As I said in a question above, don’t make me choose favourites.
I tag:
Because the two of you girls seriously need to update your blogs, I don’t care whatever with. Haha.
